According to the European Union RoHS-Directive 2002/95/EC, use of following substances is prohibited in electrical and electronic equipment as from 01 July 2006:
Cadmium (Cd) hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI) Mercury (HG)polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs) Lead (Pb)polybrominated Diphenyls (PBDEs)
To fulfil both legal requirements and customers' demands, Yamaichi Electronics will convert to lead-free plating finishes earlier than the directive requires. The conversion will occur in 3 steps, as shown below. Goods already produced and/or items on stock will be used up. During the conversion phase, it may therefore be the case that both lead-free and lead-bearing goods, which will be marked accordingly, are shipped in one delivery.
• 1st step: Products with lead-bearing solder tails will be discontinued, if lead-free variations are already available. The ordering code for the exclusively gold plated variations will change from „S"(SnPb) to „F" (Flash Au) or „B" (0.3μm Au).
e.g.: NCP036-020-BS will become NCP036-020-BF
The following product series are affected:
FAP, FCP, FGP, FNP/FNS, NCP/NCS, NFP, NHP/NHS, NKS IC122, IC133, IC140, IC149, IC26, IC30, IC38, IC83
We can accept orders for lead-bearing products in this category until 31 March 2005. After this time, and once existing stock is used-up, only lead-free products will be available.
• 2nd step: If there are no lead-free variations available, products with lead-bearing solder tails will be converted to lead-free plating finishes. The conversion of these products will be finished by 30 June 2005. Details about plating finishes, ordering code and related series will be announced at a later date.
• 3rd step: Products with a lead-bearing plating finish in the mating area (mainly production use sockets) are still under verification. The conversion of these products will be finished by 31 December 2005. The results will be announced at a later date.
Cable harnesses and other assemblies will be taken into consideration after the conversion of the single parts.
Best Regards
